According to Paul Eckman's List of Basic Emotions, the six basic emotions are anger, disgust, fear, happiness, sadness and surprise.

According to Robert Plutchik's Wheel of Emotions, different emotions can blend into one another and create new emotions. Plutchik suggests 8 primary bipolar emotions: joy versus sadness; anger versus fear; trust versus disgust; and surprise versus anticipation.
