Tunisian people speak Arabic and French.
Approximately 63% of Tunisians speak French, making it one of the most widely-spoken foreign languages in the country. French is commonly used in business, education, and government sectors in Tunisia.
Tunisian people
Tunisia was a French protectorate from 1881 to 1956, which led to the widespread use of French in government, education, and business. French continues to be spoken in Tunisia as a legacy of colonial history and due to its status as a major language of international communication.
Most Tunisians are a mix of Amazigh (Berber) populations and Arab populations. People who are this mix or speak Arabic as a mother tongue will generally identify as Arab. Populations that are more remote and speak Amazigh languages will identify as Amazigh, but these number fewer than 2%.
