It is no longer a matter of 'theory'. It is now fairly precisely known how the ancients built them, how they cut the stones, how they transported them to the building site and how they got them on top of each other. As to the last point: they threw up an earth wall next to the wall they were building in the form of a ramp, and using tree trunks as rollers, pulled the stones up to the top of the ramp which was then as high as the top of the unfinished pyramid. Finally they removed all the earth ramps and left the pyramid standing free.
Most Egyptologists accept that the pyramids were all built by members of one family; 4th dynasty rulers. Khufu built the first of the pyramids, the Great Pyramid, his son Kafre built a second one (as well as possibly the Spinx), and Kafre's son Menkaure built the third. There are more esoteric theories that space aliens built the pyramids, or that survivors of the doomed Mediterranean civilization of Atlantis built them. However, these theories are largely rejected, and have the added disadvantage of being largely motivated by prejudice, and the accompanying belief that an ancient African civilization could not possibly be responsible for building one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
An archaeologist or an Egyptologist may study pyramids.
There are many theories and they are still debated today. The link below will give you further information.
