Though traitors flinch & cowards sneer..... Marx has flaws which capitalism exploits, why should it not? But if you are prepared to be objective, which the first respondant probably is unable to be..... then the idea of government of, for & by the people as in Lincoln's speech, yes, that Lincoln, make communism a viable social means of government, the problem being its enablement in the light of human experience. But, and yes, I accept that I am being highly optimistic & free in my definition, exactly the same applies to Democracy. If you can establish a Democratic state then it will be Communist, both depend on the idea of the people having power to the nth degree. Anyone holding their breath at this point please breathe out now as you will be turning blue at any moment, it's just not going to happen! There is a phrase about it being like a red rag to a bull, come on, let's see the horns..... Communism and Democracy are separate animals. Communism is essentially an economic concept, while democracy is a governmental concept. A true democratic state, (one where all state decisions are made by all citizens) is not necessarily a communist state. In a communist state the means of production belong to the people of the state, so there is no "private property. Nothing in the definition of democracy precludes the private ownership of property. A democratic state simply means that all citizens have an equal say in the decisions of the government, whether they are rich or not. Another aspect of communism that has nothing to do with democracy is the concept of "to each according to his needs; from each according to his ability". This is the epitome of the Communist ideal. No persons work solely for themselves. They work for the common good. But again, this has nothing to do necessarily with how a government makes its decisions. A person can be happy to be perfectly equal economically with everyone else in the commune, but still have differences of opinion on whether there should be capital punishment for murder, or same-sex marriages or trans-fat foods in restaurants. When Lincoln read those words he was not even indirectly touting communism. He was reiterating the fact that governments exist to serve the people and that governments are set up through the consent of the governed. But I do agree that the first respondent is probably incapable of an objective opinion. And now that I said that and had a chance to re-read the question originally asked, I see that none of the above answers really addresses the question. At least the first one was brief. No !! Don't delete it. Although I disagree with its implications it is a statement of how that respondent felt about the question & I replied with my own view in context. Although I disagree with such means of comment it doesn't mean such comment has no place, in my opinion , on these pages. To anyone who didn't see the original reply it was, as I remember: COMMUNISM RETARDS!!!!!!!!!! Personally I cannot see anything improper in that view, and it was brief...... The "brief" first answer was "COMMUNISM RETARDS!!!!!!" And it should not be deleted from this answer or the perspective of the other two answers is lost. Plus, if that is that person's answer, I can live with it. He stated to the group who dissagred with him "Danm you MOTHER F******"
