North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia
North Carolina originally formed part of the Province of Carolina, which was chartered by King Charles II in 1663. The province was later divided into North and South Carolina in 1712. North Carolina's territory included lands that later became part of Tennessee and Virginia, but it did not claim any colonies outside of its own boundaries. Its borders were largely defined by natural landmarks and neighboring colonies.
The state was formed from lands ceded by Georgia and South Carolina and lands purchased in part from the Native American as the Mississippi Territory and organized on 7 April 1798.
