France colonized three Asian countries completely: Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos. France maintained mandates in the current countries of Lebanon and Syria (part of which is now in Turkey). France also had smaller colonies in India, such as Pondicherry, and a large sphere of influence in China.
Britain, France and Spain were the first countries to colonize in the New World. Spain was the first, since it was the most powerful European country, adn it colonized Mexico and the West. France's colonies were farther north, in what is now Canada. Britain was last to colonize and it had the 13 bristish colonies split in three colonies: New England, Middle, and Southern colonies.

The three type of countries are: More Economically Developed Countries. These are countries such as the US, the UK and Canada where people are generally rich and the country is developed. The second type is Newly Industrialized Countries. These are countries such as China which were once poor but are now becoming much richer and more modern. The third type is Less Economically Developed Countries. These are countries in Africa and South America where people are generally quite poor and the country is not developed.

Five countries that once had colonies in the northern region of South America are Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, France, and England. Spain established vast territories, including present-day Colombia and Venezuela, while Portugal claimed parts of northern Brazil. The Netherlands controlled areas such as parts of modern-day Guyana, and France had territories in French Guiana. England also had colonial interests in the region, primarily in what is now Guyana.
A shatter belt is a large area/ string of countries that were once united but are now separate entities. Yugoslavia was once a united country, but now it is separated into 6 different countries: Macedonia, Serbia, Bosnia, Croatia, Slovenia and Montenegro.

Brazil is a former Portuguese colony. The country was claimed for Portugal by Pedro Álvares Cabral [ca. 1468 - ca. 1520] in April 1500. Colonial status essentially ended with Brazil's declaration of independence on September 7, 1822.
