Also ensure that you have a free floating dial (Meaning the North Seeking Arrow is able to move within the compass freely), conduct a compass calibration,(use gps beforehand and place an object into the ground, plot point on gps, back up 25-50 meters and ensure the compass is no more than + or - 3 degrees of the GPS.), and conduct a pace count of 100 meters when only counting everytime the left foot strikes the deck to know how far you need to travel.
