What were three sources that president-elect Abraham Lincoln used to prepare for his 1861 inaugural address?

President-elect Abraham Lincoln relied on his own ideas when drafting what would be his inaugural address in March of 1861. He did however, study three sources of material that would help him make this very important speech. Lincoln carefully studied President Andrew Jackson's proclamation against Nullification. He also relied on Henry Clay's speech on behalf of the Missouri Compromise of 1850. From Daniel Webster, Lincoln studied Webster's speech of 1830 opposing Nullification.

Who was the first Republican president of the United States?

Abraham Lincoln was the first president who was a member of the modern Republican party. Some sources, particularly simplified charts, describe earlier presidents as being republican, but that was a different and not directly related party, which was formally called the Republican Democratic party. Thomas Jefferson, for example, is often cited as being the first Republican president, but he was, in fact, a Republican Democrat (which actually spawned a quasi-modern Democratic party).

What are Primary Sources and Secondary Sources and give an example of each?

A Primary Source is something that tells the truth and it was told by people in the event or the one that said it or did it. A Secondary Source is something that doesn't tell the truth and it was written by someone that searched it up online. An example of a primary source is Abraham Lincoln's quotes, my teacher gave me a sheet with a primary source in the front and in the back a secondary source. in the secondary source it said lies about Abraham Lincoln and in the primary source it said exactly what he said.

Who was Abraham Lincoln s political adversary?

Lincoln debated Judge Stephen Douglas in his run for Senator from Illinois. Douglas won the election due to gerrymandering, according to some sources. They also ran against each other in the 1860 Presidential Election, and Douglas had been one of Lincoln's rivals for the hand of Mary Todd when they were younger, too.
