There were two wars in 1812. Tthe larger of the two were the Napoleonic Wars being fought by the French Empire of Napoleon Bonaparte and England and her allies. Those wars lasted from 1803 until 1815 and included Napoleon's 1812 invasion of Russia. The other was the War of 1812 between Britain and the United States. The War of 1812 lasted from 1812 to 1815.
He was wounded three times during his service in the War of 1812 and headed the Texas Army in the War for Texas independence.
For Americans fighting on or near their own soil the Civil War was the bloodiest of the wars. It would out do the Revolutionary War, The War of 1812 and The Mexican American War. The Battle of Gettysburg out did them all.

It has often been said that the history of wars are written by the winners of those wars. Since Canada won the War of 1812, the history of it was written by and for Canadians. It has also often been said that the losers of wars tend to forget about those wars. Since the US lost the War of 1812, there has been a strong tendency to ignore it.
