Chamberlain negotiated what he thought was a peace treaty with Hitler. It was called, "Peace in our time." Unfortunately, hitler did not respect that treaty.

Chamberlain did sign & no, it did not prevent WW2. Hitler was not to be negotiated with at any price. By the time this was obvious it was too late.

He had many opponents. At the begging of the war Neville Chamberlain was Prime Minister of Great Britain. Although Hitler's opponent is most commonly known to be Winston Churchill who was Prime Minister after Chamberlain.
Chamberlain was not a general at the time of the battle. Maine had plans to make a statue but never followed through.
