Er- I don't think the Brothers Grimm WROTE Cinderella.
The Brothers Grimm takes place in the time period from the mid 18th century to the mid 19th century. The brothers are renown storytellers of popularized stories such as Cinderella and Snow White.
Hansel and Gretel is a fairytale story written by the Brothers Grimm, who were German authors known for collecting and publishing folklore. The Brothers Grimm were responsible for compiling various folktales and fairy tales, including Hansel and Gretel, into a collection of stories known as Grimm's Fairy Tales.
The Brothers Grimm, Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, are best known for their collection of fairy tales, which include well-known stories such as "Cinderella," "Snow White," "Hansel and Gretel," "Rapunzel," and "Little Red Riding Hood." Their collection of fairy tales has been translated into numerous languages and remains popular worldwide.
"Little Red Riding Hood" is a traditional European fairy tale that has been passed down through oral tradition. It has been attributed to various authors over time, including Charles Perrault and the Brothers Grimm. However, its origins are difficult to trace definitively.
Before the Grimm brothers collected fairy tales in the early 19th century, these stories were passed down orally through generations in various cultures. They were often moralistic folk tales and legends that served as cautionary tales or provided entertainment for both children and adults. These stories were part of the rich oral tradition of storytelling in different societies.
Roald Dahl did not create Cinderella. Cinderella is a fairy tale that originated long before Dahl's time. Dahl was a children's book author who wrote popular stories such as "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and "Matilda."
Initially, the Brothers Grimm were viewed as scholars and collectors of folktales, contributing to the preservation of German cultural heritage. However, some criticized their work for sanitizing and moralizing the original tales to make them more suitable for children. Over time, their collections became highly influential in shaping the genre of fairy tales and are now considered classics of world literature.
I LOVE the Sisters Grimm. It is my most favorite seires of all time!
Charles Perrault's version is much more common since Disney adapted it in 1950. My guess would be sometime in the 17th century. There's a web page (link below) featuring many versions of Cinderella, including that by Charles Perrault and that by The Grimm Brothers. About the time - there are versions of this as well, but they all lead to one point: we don't know. It's a time outside ours, in a universe filled with magic, in which beautiful girls had fairies as their godmothers. Some hints in the story would point to the Middle Ages, perhaps. But finding an approximate time setting for a fairy tale isn't the most worthy of endeavours. This is a quote from one of the versions, that I find most eloquent: Once upon a time, though it was not in my time or in your time, or in anybody else's time
"Once upon a time, in a faraway kingdom, there lived a kind and gentle girl named Cinderella. Despite facing hardships and mistreatment from her stepfamily, she remained hopeful that her dreams of happiness would one day come true."
Cinderella's spell wore off at midnight.
Most libraries have fairytales in the 398.2 section. The Brothers Grimm, Perrault, and Hans Christian Andersen are famous collectors of fairytales.
