It depends on what sort of schools you are talking about, for example, preschool finishes at about 2 o'clock in the afternoon, and the time when the school finishes depends on what year you in, the higher, the later you will get home. For example, if you are a yr 2 student, you might be able to go home at 3.30 in the afternoon, if you are yr 6 student, you might have to stay in school until 6 o'clock in the afternoon.
If you are in a secondary school, say, for example, yr 7, yr 8, do not really have much difference, if you are in yr 9, as you will be tested at the end of the year, you will have to work VERY hard, which means you will probably stay in school until 8, because you will have evening lessons as well, you have LOADS of homework to do EVERY night, the homework you will get will probably make you keep doing it for 4, 5 hours. and remember, it is EVERY night. In yr 9, you do not get many days off in a year.
If you are in yr 10, you have to come back to school during holidays, the school finishes at 8.30 in the evening, I don't think there will be any occasions that you go home later than this.
But remember, China has many regions, each regions, and each schools have will have different policies, say a school in Shanghai will be different from a school in Beijing. The above is about a school in Beijing.
