Duke of Edinburgh
Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh
Queen Elizabeth II's husband is Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. Since Prince Philip was prince of Denmark and Greece prior to his marriage he retains the title of Prince. His only titles in Great Britain are Duke and the Queen consort.
Elizabeth I , the Virgin Queen, was never married as this title implies. Elizabeth II, of course, married Prince Philip ( who is of Greek extraction, his mother was an Orthodox Nun)
Because Prince Philip is a man, not a chick.
Because he was invested with the title by Queen Elizabeth II.
I hate to break it to you, but there isn't one...... the current Queen is Elizabeth II, her husband is Prince Philip. Since he is her husband by marriage and not a direct descendant to the throne, he can't be 'King'. When they first got married, his title was 'His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh'. In 1957 the Queen granted her husband the title of Prince, his title is now 'His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh'. Next in line to the throne is the Queen and Prince Philip's oldest son, Prince Charles. When the Queen dies, he will be 'King Charles'.
Because, since he was not born of royalty - he could not inherit the title of King. The same reason applies to Prince Philip - Her Majesty Queen's Elizabeth II's husband.
Queen Elizabeth II is married to Prince Philip, her distant cousin. Before they married he renounced his royal title as Prince of Greece and Denmark and was named Duke of Edinburgh. He was made Prince of the United Kingdom in 1957. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in November 2012.
No ! Camilla wasn't born into a Royal family - and therefore can NEVER have the title 'Queen' It's the same situation with Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth's husband, Philip. He wasn't part of a Royal Family, and thus has the title Prince. Camilla will have the title Princess Camilla when Charles accedes to the throne.
Queen Elizabeth announced shortly before Prince William's wedding that his new title will be Duke of Cambridge. His second title will be Earl of Strathearn and his third title will be Baron Carrickfergus.
I am answering this presuming that you are referring to the current Prince Phillip of England, husband of Queen Elizabeth II. Prince Phillip is by birth a Prince in Greece and Denmark, but when he married Elizabeth he renounced those titles. He does not hold a specific princedom in the UK today (i.e. Prince of...), but is referred to as Prince because he is the Prince-Consort of the Queen. (To be honest, his actual title and right to the title Prince is debated). With regards to actual titles he holds, his most significant (highest in precedence) is Duke of Edinburgh.
The English language has no special term for the grandson of a Queen. Such a person may be given a title of nobility and known by that title. In the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth Nations the title of Prince is granted at the will of the Monarch and is currently held by Queen Elizabeth's sons (Charles, Andrew, and Edward) and by Prince Charles' sons (William and Harry). Other grandsons of Elizabeth II are not called "Prince."
