Type of parrot would help, some are more timid than others. Handling it, getting it used to being handled properly. It takes a while to build up trust. As long as you don't do anything to it that hurts or scares it, it will figure out that you are alright and can be trusted. After a while, you should be able to do pretty much what you want with it. My personal method is to do the things it really doesn't like doing. Laying on it's back, messing with it's feet. It learns that you are not trying to hurt it and it becomes play.
I would buy a training clicker from petsmart. Then. You go to your bird and hold out your hand. you go closer until it trys to bite but dont move. Once it is calm. Click! This trains ur bird!
