Paper mache or just pile some dirt up and stick pieces of branches in it for trees. You can make it "erupt" by burying a bottle inside it and then pour vinegar and baking soda in it - or Diet Coke and a tube of "Mentos" mints - try the two liter size and a tube of Mentos.
