stop it for crying out loud!

if he's prone to fighting with other dogs, keep him on the leash when outside and yank him back if he lunges for another dog.

be assertive and make sure to tell him off! don't be self-conscious about telling him off in public; it's your dog! if you punish him, do it straight after; not when you get home, cos he won't know what he's being told off for.

Will your 8 year old male staffordshire bull terrier be compatible with a male staffordshire bull terrier pup?

No. Two male Staffordshire Bull Terriers living together is a bad idea. They will fight each other, often to the death.

Why were the staffordshire bull tarrier used for fighting?

Unfortunately, Staffordshire Bull Terriers were fought for human entertainment. People would often place bets on which Dog would win and the winning Dog would go on to fight again. Another 'blood sport' involving Bull Terriers was bull baiting, where a tethered Bull or Bear was killed by Dog's for human entertainment. The Staffordshire Bull Terrier and American Staffordshire Terrier (Pit Bull) were selected as the breeds used in these 'blood sports' because they are athletic, fast, agile and strong.

Why was the American Staffordshire Terrier bred?

In the nineteenth century in the English region of Staffordshire, crossing among the Bulldog and various terriers developed the muscular, active, combativeStaffordshire Bull Terrier. Brought to the United States, the breed was preferred by American breeders who increased its weight and gave it a more powerful head. Now recognized as a separate breed, the American Staffordshire is larger and heavier than his British cousin, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier. After dog fighting was banned in the United States in 1900, two strains of these dogs were developed, a show strain and a fighting dog strain. The show strain was labeled the American Staffordshire, while the fighting dog strain was labeled the American Pit Bull Terrier. The two are now being recognized as separate breeds. Today the American Pit Bull Terrier is being bred with the same gentle qualities as the American Staffordshire Terrier. They both make great pets with the right kind of owner. The American Staffordshire Terrier was recognized by the AKC in 1936. Some of the American Staffordshire Terriers talents are watchdog, guarding, police work, weight pulling and agility.

What dog breeds are considered to be bully dogs?

Bully breed dogs are dogs that are classified as pit bill type breeds and were originally bred to fight bulls for sport. Not all dogs that have the term "bull" in their breed qualify. Bully breeds include the American pit bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Staffordshire terrier, English bull terrier, miniature bull terrier, and the American bulldog. (The English bulldog is not considered a bully breed.) Bully breeds are all part of the pit bull family, but each breed has unique personalities and temperaments. Bully breeds have gotten a bad reputation because of their aggressive beginnings, but they are great dogs to the right owner.

What is the difference between an American and English Staffie?

Originally there wasn't a difference when they were brought to the United States from the Staffordshire Bull Terrier or SBT. However different groups of people have gotten a hold on these dogs and used them for different purposes. The American Pit Bull Terrier or APBT was bred for function. They were bred for gameness (willingness to fight) dog aggression, prey drive, as well as a host of other features that enhance the dogs ability to win fights. The American Staffordshire Terrier or AST started from the same origins, however the traits they were bred for were different. They were bred for appearance and standards for show purposes. It was acknowledged as a different breed in 1936 by the AKC as the Staffordshire Terrier. It was later renamed American Staffordshire Terrier in 1972. The AST is considered to be less dog aggressive than the APBT, however neither should be trusted off leash with other dogs. In BOTH breeds human aggression was bred out of them. Dog fighters would put to death any dogs that showed human aggression (humans were in the pits during dog fights).

What are the Names of types of pit bulls?

There are 4. The Spuds Mckinzie type. They are little, and have the big head. Those are Bull Terriers. Then, there is the "American pit bull terrier", which I have not seen, or heard of in quite some time, although I am sure they are still around. Then there is the most common show/fight dog, which is the "American Staffordshire bull terrier", and a miniature version of those called "American Staffordshire Bull Terrier," which these days, people are calling them "pocket pits." Now, there are sub catergories that brak down like this. And, as far as I know, these only apply to the most common, the Am Staff. A brindle, a red nose, and a blue nose. There is only a difference of colors, and markings, on those, however, they say the red nose is the meanest/toughest, but I don't really know about that. They are, however the most common when it comes to fighting. The blue nose are getting a bad rep. right now do to poor breeding techniques. They all can be mean, if they have bad owners, and all are tough. I do remeber, vaguely, before I got into them, something about a "red tip", which was supposed to have 5 red points. 2 eyes, a red nose, and 2 red tipped ears. But, I have not seen, or heard of one of those, since I was a kid....Chuck.
