If you are installing a vinyl floor then 1/4 inch luan plywood is the industry standerd.
fasten with 18ga narrow(1/4) inch crown staples about 7/8 inch long. Nail 4 inches apart in the centers of sheet and about 1/4 around the edges NAIL the center first so that no air gets trapped. Do not shoot through the sheet you should be able to see the staple head but not see it. Coat all seams with twice with ardex or a comparable feather finish joint compound. If in a hurry you can dry ardex with a propane torch some bubbles will occur
scrape rough areas down flush and install vinyl. Use edge moldings including tub cap metal and quarter round and it is allways best to glue the full area not just around the edges.
