There are lots of places to see in the midlands of Ireland. The midlands tends to be quite flat, so there are wide open views from some hills. The countryside is beautiful. There are lots of rivers, with the river Shannon flowing right through the middle of Ireland. Lough Ree and Lough Derg are on the river. The Royal Canal and Grand Canal also flow through the midlands, towards the Shannon from Dublin. Lots of places of interest are to be found, like Clonmacnoise, an old monastic city from the 6th century. Many old castles are to be seen. There are many small towns and villages to be seen. All of these things and many other historic sights are found in Ireland's midlands.
