Most recruiters can give you study materials, if you ask for them. Most of it is common knowledge from high school. It has been a while since I took it, but brushing up on basic parts of a car and math will help.
General math, reading, word knowledge, automotive, hardware, engineering questions. The ASVAB is used to determine how much you know about something.
Example:
They give you a word, we'll use BIG, then it lists 4 words and says which word means the same as big (giant, small, hot, cold)

They are two different tests. The asvab is s military based test; therefore there is different vocabulary. I recommend studying for the test you take. If taking the asvab you can get study guides on post.
There is only one way to pass an Asvab test. All you can do is study as much as you can and do your best.
Your ASVAB score is actually your AFQT score which is made up of a weighted average of your scores on the following ASVAB subtests: * Word Knowledge * Paragraph Comprehension * Arithmetic Reasoning * Mathematics Knowledge Depending on the branch of the military you're enlisting in you'll also have a series of line scores that will qualify you for particular jobs within that service branch. ASVAB/AFQT score gets you in and line scores qualify you for job training.
Military personnel can find ASVAB study guides in a number of places. There are some listed on the Military website, as well as Study Guide Zone's website and through bookstores like Barnes and Noble.
HI my name is jesse i've been trying to pass the asvab too. I need a score of about 50 or more to join the marines i have books to study but still i can't pass the test do u know a good book to get to study?
The most recommended book is McGraw-Hill's ASVAB. It has a comprehensive review of all the areas on the ASVAB, practice tests, items with explanations, word lists for you to study, math items to work on with explanations given, test taking hints for both the paper/pencil and computer versions, and 4, full-length practice tests. The practice tests will help you identify your strengths and weaknesses so that you can concentrate your study in the right places.
I found this website that should help tremendously with ASVAB prep: http://www.testprepreview.com/asvab_practice.htm. They have broken down the test into several different categories to help you study so the more you practice the more likely that you will suceed.
The highest score you can get on the ASVAB is a 99
