It really depends on your parents and what kind of a show you're attending. This is not the occasion to sex it up for your boyfriend.
The short answer is, the theatre has no dress code. You can attend a play wearing jeans and a sweatshirt if you like. The real question is, What will your parents feel comfortable with you wearing?
Dress for the event. If it's at a nice Opera house, then dress up. If its at a school auditorium (not dissing school theater. Its just an example...), don't worry too much about being dressy.
If you are looking for instant directions, wear black trousers (pants) or a black skirt, and a pretty top that covers your shoulders. Enjoy the play!
