Nuthatch, Nutcracker
Clark's nutcracker is also known as the Clark's crow or woodpecker crow. The bird is named for the explorer, William Clark, who is one of the first (if not the first) to describe the bird.
Generically, a nutcracker is a tool to break open hard-shelled nuts. The most notable use is to describe the Bavarian wood-carving art, in the form of human figures (stylized soldiers and nobility). This form is associated with the 1891 ballet "The Nutcracker" (aka "Nutcracker Suite") by Tchaikovsky. The best known melody is the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy which was played on the then-novel instrument called the "celesta".
