Chandlers really didn't use many tools. The main one was simply a kettle and possibly a candle mold. the kettle was used in both methods of colonial candle making.

Candles were an important item in Colonial America. During this time, electricity was not available so candles were very important to their daily lives. A chandler was a person who makes or manages a candle shop. A chandler also could be someone who makes soaps and other goods such as gun powder, saltpeter or other chemicals used back in the days. These candles were sold at the Chandler trade shop. Candles were usually made from tallow, but could also be made from bayberry or myrtle wax.
To make a candle, a chandler would first craft the wick with thin pieces of cotton or linen. Next, he would heat up tallow or animal fat before dipping the wick into it. The wick would be dipped into the burning animal fat several times. This "dipping" was done until the candle was the desired size. Chandlers really did not use many tools to make candles. The main one was simply a kettle and of course a wick and animal fat.
