I'm a pipe fitter/fabricator but often do some boilermaker type work. Most contractors seem to supply wrenches & sockets 2" and above so I'd say 3/4, 7/8, 1-1/16, 1-1/4, 1-1/8, 1-5/8, 1-7/16"s wrenches including spud wrenches and hammer wrenches, steel & brass banana wedges. A good 4 or 5lb short handle sledge hammer, some channel locks, 12" and 18" crescent wrench, large pry bars, bull pins, and large & small square headed wedges. Safety harness with 4 or 6' lanyard (some contractors supply), 18" and 24" pipe wrenches and maybe even a 4 1/2" grinder (DeWalt) grinder.
Like I said, I'm a pipe fitter/fabricator now but was a "bolt-up fitter" before which does a decent amount of boilermaker style work and that should get you to a good start on your tools.
Sounds like you're probably just starting out, be sure to get a good tool box like a a Joe Box or they sell some Rigid brand boxes at Home Depot (much cheaper) to store your tools. Also if you're new to the the refineries please listen to the guys the guys who've been out there doing it for years and be safe! Boilermaker is a serious job title!

I need a full job description of a boilermaker, what his duties and responsibilities are.
can i view a copy of entire nccer boilermaker test?
"A boilermaker is a trained craftsman who produces steel fabrications from plates and sections." (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boilermakers)
The Boilermakers do not have one specific test that they take. A boilermaker must be an apprentice before becoming a journeyman boilermaker. The apprentices will take several tests during a four year time frame. To get a copy of these tests, contact your local hall.

The ability to stick weld is critical to the Boilermaker. It is done on mild steel and stainless alike and in all positions. Though less overall time is spent doing so, the boilermaker must also be able to heli-arc. Again, this is done on mild steel and stainless in all positions. Some high-volume jobs will require the use of a "squirt gun". A boilermaker's welds are regularly tested (at least during their apprenticeship) to assure quality of work. Many jobs are X-Ray tested making the perfection of each and every weld a must.

The mascotof Purdue University is the boilermaker train.
The official mascott is the Boilermaker Special (a train.) The Special is built off of a truck platform and is seen at all football games and many other events. Unofficially Purdue also uses a character named "Purdue Pete" to represent the University, especially at athletic events. You may also see a smaller version of the train called the "Boilermaker Extra-Special" built off of a golf cart frame. This is used on the football field and basketball court.
