As with all places, most Italian tornadoes are weak (EF0-EF1), onlyasmall percentage are strong (EF2-EF3), but in the past Italy has had many destructive events.

In the 1930 a probable F5 tornado hit northern Italy killing 23 people in a path 80 km (50 mi) long.

A few years later, in the 1957 another F5 hit the northern Italy killing 6 people.

On September 11, 1970 an F4 tornado hit Padua and Venice travelling for 70 km killing 36 people (most of these on a boat).

Thewere were two other possible F4 tornadoes, one in 1910 that killed 60 people and another in the 1965 that killed 9 people.

Then there are numerous F3 or EF3 tornadoes. The most recent dates back to 3 May 2013 in northern Italy; large and strong tornado that wounded 13 people. The other most important have occurred in November 28, 2012, near Taranto killing 1 person, on June 6, 2009 near Treviso which wounding 28 people, on November 12, 2004 in Sicily (nearly an F4) and on July 7, 2001 near Milan wounding 92 people.
