The Roman gladiators went through a period of rigorous training in at least two sessions a day. They were not allowed in the arena until they had mastered the basics of the use of the weapons that they would be using in their style of fighting.

Yes they did. Gladiators were owned and trained by sponsors ( similar to football teams today) and the different sponsors would match gladiators against each other. Often betting took place on the outcome of the battle. This was a big business owning gladiators and training them. A lot of prestige came with having the best "line up" of gladiators.

Did roman gladiators see their family?

Roman gladiators typically had limited contact with their families. Many were slaves or prisoners of war, and their training and fighting often kept them away from home for extended periods. Some gladiators were allowed to visit their families occasionally, but this was not common, and many were separated from loved ones for years. The life of a gladiator was primarily focused on training and combat, leaving little room for family connections.

How did training help the Romans?

Training helped the Romans in the same way it helps us. Training helps to make one better at what he/she is trying to do. In the case of the Romans, they needed training to become soldiers, orators, politicians, gladiators, or farm hands.

How fit did you have to be if you wanted to be a gladiator?

Most gladiators were slaves. They weren't necessarily fit before they became gladiators. They had to go through a lot of training (which would naturally make them fit) before they could fit in the arenas anyway.
