The refrigerant itself does.
The refrigerant itself does.
The dye travels with the refrigerant and oil through the system.
The dye is carried along with the lubricating oil as it moves through system.
To detect an AC leak using AC leak dye, the dye is added to the AC system. The system is then run to circulate the dye. A UV light is used to inspect the system for any leaks, as the dye will glow under the UV light, making it easier to identify the source of the leak.
Usually the leak is where the rear line set goes over the rear axle. Those vehicles had dye in the system that shows green under ultraviolet light. Usually it's in the larger line.
To find a leak in your home AC system, you can use a leak detection kit that contains dye and a UV light. Inject the dye into the system, run the AC, and then use the UV light to locate the leak where the dye is visible. Alternatively, you can hire a professional HVAC technician to perform a leak detection test using specialized equipment.
Assuming this is the AC condenser, if it has had a small leak, the area around the leak would be oily and covered with road dirt. You could inject an ultraviolet dye into the system and the leak would show up with a black light or just take it to a shop that does AC work and have them work on it.
If the system was low and refrigerant and dye were added then you need to return to the shop so that they can check for leaks. That was the purpose of adding dye.
You have a leak somewhere in the ac system. A dye can be injected into the system and with the use of a black light and special glasses the leak can be detected so repairs can be made.
There probably is a leak. Is there still freon in it? There are ares in the a/c system that are not visable. Was Dye added?
The dye was put in the system to tell where the leak is located. Return to the repair shop and let the check it out.
Most often it's the shaft seal. Put in a little dye in the AC system next time you refill it. You can purchase 134A with UV dye and regular colored dye. Run the system for a little while then check to see where it is leaking. If you use the UV dye, you'll need a UV light, but they aren't terribly expensive.
