A sprain is not the same as a break. What you can do for a dog is the same as what you can do for a human. Wrap it up in an ace bandage, put an ice pack next to it for up to 48 hours after the injury, and keep it elevated for as much of that period of time as possible. Also, try to make sure the dog doesn't run around too much for the next month or so otherwise it might not heal.
Take it to the veterinarian. There is nothing that you can do at home, you need advanced medical equipment to help your dog. If the cost is too expensive, usually the vet can lower the cost for you because of the recession.

If it is just a sprain you can give the dog Aspirin, usually only one. Our German Shepherd sprained her leg on ice once and that is all the vet gave us. It'll take about a week or so to heal and if it gets worse (or doesn't get any better within the first couple days) then take the dog to the vet to make sure it wasn't a break.
Never try and self-medicate the dog. The best thing to do is to take it to the vets immediately. In the mean time, try and keep the dog still as to limit any more damage to the leg. If it is bleeding, try dabbing cooled boiled salt water onto the wound, to keep infection away until you can get the dogs to the vet.
call a vet imediatly!!!!!!!! goodness!!!!! i hope your dog is okay....good luck!!!!!!!
You need to let your dog rest his leg for as long as possible. If you have to take him out, you need to let it be very brief.
The best medications for dogs with sprained legs are analgesics. This relieve pain in dogs and allow them to move more easily.
It is recommended that you call your vet office and get your dog in immediately, as this type of injury is VERY PAINFUL for your dog. The only way of knowing what type of injury it is, is of course through X-RAY'S. Your vet will best advise you of the diagnosis and proper treatment for your dog. unless your a traned vet or superman with x-ray vision then take it too the vet or shoot it. Im sure its in alot of pain!
you call it a leg that has been hurt not severely but maybe damaged somehow
Sometimes.
Sprained Achilles Tendon
If you think your puppy has sprained a leg (or is not bearing weight on one leg or limping), you need to take him to a vet. Call your vet and tell him/her exactly what your puppy is doing and they will decide if you need to bring the dog in ASAP, or if it can wait a day or so.
Even if you can't use the ankle that has been sprained, it is possible to walk using the other leg and crutches.
If you think your dog has hurt it's leg I'd recommend taking it to the vets. You don't want it to suffer unnecessarily. If it's limping check first that it doesn't have a cut or something stuck in it's paw.
No, but she sprained it and won the race.
It probly has a broken leg take it to a vet or it may be sad or depressed
They fixed it.
no he never broke his leg...he sprained his ankle according to his official site but not his leg
yes because one of the nerves on your ankle gets pinched and cuts the blood flow to your body leg.
