The African tribes did and still do use many different materials to make their shields and they used/use animal skin, usually Buffalo skin to make their shields look good and sophisticated.
The Otoe indians made many leather crafts from Buffalo skin. They made rugs, clothes, sheilds, shoes, game balls (The hair can be wrapped tightly into a sphere), blankets, and pillows. The bones were used as tools for building or fixing things.

The Lakota are a plains tribe and today they have many occupations as individuals. In the past they were known for their hunting skills and their bravery in war. They followed the buffalo herds from the plains to Canada. The buffalo was very important to the spiritual life of the tribe and in using the buffalo for food and other things the tribe needed.
