World War II is considered the most destructive war in history due to its unprecedented scale, resulting in an estimated 70-85 million fatalities, which included both military personnel and civilians. The war spanned multiple continents and saw widespread atrocities, including the Holocaust and the use of atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Additionally, it caused massive infrastructure damage, economic collapse in many regions, and long-lasting geopolitical shifts that shaped the modern world. The sheer intensity and global reach of the conflict set it apart from previous wars.
One key difference between World War I and World War II is the scale and scope of the conflicts. World War I, fought primarily in Europe from 1914 to 1918, involved trench warfare and was characterized by a stalemate among the major powers. In contrast, World War II, which lasted from 1939 to 1945, was a global conflict that saw widespread mobilization, significant advancements in military technology, and the involvement of multiple continents. Additionally, World War II was marked by a more pronounced ideological struggle, particularly against fascism and totalitarian regimes.
In the opening days and months of World War I, the reaction of ordinary citizens on both sides was generally enthusiastic. Most people supported the war; most saw it as an opportunity; many believed that it would be concluded quickly -- and end in victory for their side.
Most European countries were involved in World War 1. In Western Europe, most of the fighting took place in Belgium and France and in Eastern Europe, Turkey and Bulgaria saw a lot of fighting.

There were two countries that saw most of the fighting, as the Western Front stretched across France and Belgium. I am not aware of which country got the worst of it. Probably France because they had the two Battles of the Somme.
