On the 1953 Mount Everest expedition the first two to try and reach the summit were Charles Evans and Thomas Bourdillon. They reached the South Summit but due to equipment problems and time they returned back to camp. This then made way for Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay to reach the summit.

Erik Weihenmayer was the first blind person to climb Mount Everest. He had a large team with him to help him with every step to the top and back down.
He did this because he wanted to achieve something for his Family and Friends. He was already very into climbing and thought it was appropriate to 'climb the unclimbed'. So he joined the British exploring team. They started there climb up Mount Everest led by John Hunt. He was 33 when he started the climb up Mount Everest and it was the 29 of May!

There are expeditions to climb Mount Everest every year during April/May when it is the climbing season.
The first man to climb Mount Everest was Edmund Hillary from New Zealand. He was part of the 1953 British Mount Everest Expedition. He reached the summit at 11.30 in the morning on the 29th May. His climbing partner Tenzing Norgay reached the summit not long after.
In 1975 an expedition from China had a record 410 climbers in its team, although not all of them reached the summit of Mount Everest.
