Answer:After establishment of the two Boer Republics, gold was discovered in Transvaal and that was the motivation for the British to occupy the Boer Republics. Resulting in the first defeat for the British Empire ever, in the first Anglo Boer War, where a hand full of Boer civil soldiers, won the war against the mighty British Empire. This was a humiliation for Queen Victoria that she could not except. In 1899 the British tried again to occupy the Boer Republics and again the Boers declared war, a war that lasted for three years. If it was not for the British savage concentration camps where 2400 Boer children and 3000 Boer woman were killed in the most savage ways, like fine pieces of glass in their food, the outcome of the war would be in favour of the Boers.Watch this BBC series on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0i-hy_0VWZ8
It is important to note that there were two Boer Wars. The first Boer War lasted 3 months and 3 days. The Boers were resentful of the British annexation of the country and in particular the then Transvaal, which was rich in minerals such as diamonds and gold. The war resulted in a victory for the Boers and British recognition of the Zuid-Afrikaansche Republiek (South African Republic) and the Oranje Vrystaat (English: Orange Free State). The second Boer War 2 years, 7 months, 2 weeks and 6 days. The war followed on almost a century of conflict between the British and the Boers. Once again the war was fought over South Africa's lucrative mineral fields. Particularly which nation would control and benefit from owning the Witwatersrand gold mines. The war ultimately resulted in a victory for the British and the two independent republics (Zuid-Afrikaansche Republiek and Oranje Vrystaat) were annexed.

No. The Boer Wars (there were two) both took place in the country of South Africa between the "original" Dutch settlers called "Boers", meaning "Farmer" in Dutch, and the British colonists. "Native" South Africans, like the Zulu, Xhosa, etc. were involved in these wars as well. The British used concentration camps to win the second Boer War. The Boer wars also have nothing to do with either Iraq or Kuwait.
There never was a South African War! There were two Anglo Boer Wars and the Zulu wars.
