The Hudson river is one river that connects to New York Harbor. Another river that connects to New York Harbor is the East River. While the East river is called a river, it is technically not, it is a tidal strait.
The Hudson River and the East River meet at New York Harbor. However, the East River is not a true river, but a tidal strait. It connects to the ocean on both sides. It flows south from the bay known as the Long Island Sound, down the east side of Manhattan, and into New York Harbor.
The Hudson River flows down the west side of Manhattan, and into New York Harbor.
