If a 1992 Jaguar XJS stops working, you can still raise the top. However, this can depend on what is broken. If the battery is dead, then you wouldn't be able to do this.

Fuel tank and sending unit are located between the back seat and the trunk (on a coupe that is). On the XJS Convertible, the fuel level sending unit is located on the rear center of the fuel tank. It is accessible through the trunk. To service or replace the unit, you need to remove the spare tire and then the upholstery shield covering the back plate. The large back plate that holds and protects the fuel tank has an access hole in the center so you can get at the sending unit. There are two electrical wires so make a note of which colored wire connects to which connector. Note: You should remove most of the fuel from the tank before you remove the sending unit or gas will leak out into the trunk. This is an overview for my 1994 XJS Convertible. If the access hole is not available on the '95, you will need to remove the back plate to get at the fuel sending unit.
