Covalent bonding. It is a network covalent solid. Any time you have two of the same atoms together it will be some sort of covalent bonding (a specially kind of covalent bonding called metallic bonding in the case of two metals).

Polar Covalent

1.Both silicon and chlorine are nonmetals which means they have to make a covalent bond.

2. Silicon has an electronegativity (an atom's ability to attract electrons) of 1.8 while chlorine has an electronegativity of 3.0. This causes chlorine to have a negative charge, making the overall molecule polar.

All of the silicon chlorides have polar covalent bonds. The best known is SiCl4 (tetrachlorosilane, or silicon tetrachloride) The others such as Si2Cl6 and Si3Cl8 (similar generic formulae SinCl2n+2 as alkanes) also have covalent bonds polar ones between Si-Cl and non-polar between Si-Si.
