Ruby Falls could be the name of a variety of caves in the world. In the United States, there is a famous tourist cave in Tennessee with the name Ruby Falls.

This cave is formed in Limestone and is inside Lookout Mountain. Ruby Falls is a good cave to visit, and the waterfall room is really cool. However, the cave passage from the elevator to the waterfall room was originally a crawlway, and has been enlarged to allow for walking.

The waterfall, as it appears in the cave, is only present when heavy rains hit lookout mountain. To augment the experience of the visitor when heavy rains are not present, the owners of Ruby Falls have installed a pump to circulate the water.

The cave was formed, like other caves in the area, by rain water peculating through soil. When this happens, the water combines with the carbon in the soil and forms a very weak carbonic acid. This weak acid enters cracks in the limestone and dissolves the limestone. This enlarges the crack until a room or passage is formed.
