Earthquakes that causes most damage when two plates crashed and one plate moves upwards vertically than the other plate. There is not really a name for what earthquake does the most damage. I'm doing a unit for grade 7, and it has the same question you just asked. Sorry if this did not help! if it did,, you're you are super duper welcome.!!

Faults DO NOT produce earthquakes, faults are produced by earthquakes. This means that earthquake loci are centered on and along faults. The energy released by an earthquake is the strain energy built up as a result of plate tectonic forces. The damage relates to the amount of strain built up and the greatest strains arise in environments where the forces are horizontally compressive, resulting in thrust faults.
The most powerful earthquakes are known as "megathrust" quakes and occur in subduction zones. They are essentially very large scale thrust faults.
However the amount of damage caused by an earthquake is a function of the proximity of the earthquake to a zone of population as well as it's magnitude and the design of the structures in the affected area.
Please see the related link for more information on megathrust earthquakes.
Earthquakes cause the most damage where there is more infrastructure that can be damaged, building codes are not strong, and the shaking is strongest due to proximity to the earthquake's epicenter and the geology of the area (some geological features of the ground absorb/lessen the intensity of earthquake shaking more than others).

Most earthquakes do occur on fault lines.
The tectonic plates and the fault lines create movements that most commonly create earthquakes. Earthquakes occur along the fault lines, causing the tectonic plates to shift.
At the base of the tectonic plate most at fault.
All over the world. Like, California, Japan, and others because they sit on fault lines where the plates push against each other to cause earthquakes. Wherever a fault line is that country will most likely have tons of earthquakes over the years.

That would be the San Andreas fault line.

Earthquakes occur on fault lines, which aren't everywhere on Earth. The vibrations from any one quake actually propagate throughout MOST of the Earth's crust, but not with any damaging force.
Along fault line.
The answer is yes
California has more earthquakes then Florida, because California sits along the San Andreas Fault line. ( )-improvement, actually California sits on a series of many fault lines, the San Andreas only being one of them. San Andreas runs most of the length of the coast of California and is well known because it has a hard "kink" near LA which causes more violent earthquakes when it shifts, and can actually be seen in the topography of some areas of California from overhead. These fault lines are also a part of the "ring of fire" which causes the majority of the earthquakes and volcanoes along the West Coast of N America, Japan, and many of the Island chains of the Pacific.
