Birth of a nation
Lillian Diana Gish was an American actress who appeared in films made by director DW Griffith. She is most known for starring in "The Birth of a Nation."

Griffith used source material that was biased toward the Ku Klux Klan, casting them as heroes instead of villains. The film portrayed African Americans in a racist light, as well as reinterpreting the historical events in favor of southern sympathies. That said, content aside, the film is an example of the techniques of silent film at its finest. Unfortunately, it was at the service of bigoted themes.
