In the wild, mainly trees and foliage, bushes etc. Seeing as apes move a lot to find food etc. I assume they have many different homes throughout their lives, but I'm certain they will always sleep/live in vegitation.
In capitivity, good zoos try to keep their animals in the most similar habitat to the wild that they can get, yet as they place climbing frames and ropes etc. for entertainment towards the animals, I guess they will use that and obviously will use the whole of their enclosure to live in.
