Iceland is a volcanic island.
Volcanic action. The island is called Surtsey.
The Mid-Atlantic Ridge passes through, and is responsible for the creation of, the landmass known as Iceland. Because its creation is due to a divergent plate boundary, the lava would be mafic or basaltic due to the source of the upwelling magma being directly from the asthenosphere.
An island is a distinct landmass that is smaller than a continent. Islands are surrounded by water and are typically less extensive in size compared to continents. Examples of islands include Hawaii, Madagascar, and Iceland.
