In electrical terms a three phase compressor is a compressor that is driven with a three phase motor. There are compressors that have three pressure heads. The three heads boost the pressure up in higher increments but these are referred to as three stage compressors.

A 3 phase compressor motor would most likely be considered a continuous load although mainy

factors could classify it as momentary

Why are no starting components needed on three-phase motors?

Yes, by using a DOL Starter, which gives a controlled "soft-start" for the motor even though it is always connected in delta configuration. In this type of starting a 3-phase motor, full voltage is applied to the motor through relays and contactors. Its is the most common type of 3-phase motor starter used.DOL means Direct On-Line starter.

Can a single phase generator run a 3 phase air conditioner?

Depending on who does the work it could be less expensive than getting a different air conditioner. The compressor will also need a capacitor and some rewiring. The old unit could have a 3 phase blower motor also which could run the price up even more. Although the changes can be made, the warranty at best will probably be a one year warranty and a new unit could have a 5-10 year warranty.

Is a 3 phase motor a Synchronous motor?

A synchronous motor can be a type of 3-Phase AC motor, or not.A synchronous motor is defined by the period of the rotor being synchronized with the frequency of the stator windings' current. The stator windings might be 3-Phase or not (2-Phase would work). Also synchronous motors are not the only type of 3-Phase AC motors. An induction motor could also be 3-Phase AC and has a few advantages and disadvantages over a synchronous motor.

How many amps does a 2HP motor draw on start up?

The rule of thumb for fusing the motor is 300% of the full load amps. To answer this question a voltage value for the motor is needed. That would depend on the type of electricity used and the type of motor. The answer will be different for DC, single phase AC, two phase AC, and three phase. There are many types of motors as well: split-phase, brush less, squirrel cage, synchronous, etc. Each one has different characteristics.

Why starting currrent is higher in 3 phase id motor than 3 phase transformer?

CLARIFICATION AND ANSWER: 1. STARTING CURRENT PRODUCED ONLY BY ITS LOAD NOT SOURCE(SAY STEPDOWN TRAFO) 2. IF THE INDUCTION MOTOR IS THE ONLY LOAD OF THE STEP DOWN TRANSFORMER (SOURCE)-THE READING WILL BE AND SHOULD BE THE SAME IN THE SECONDARY SIDE UNLESS YOUR AMMETER IS IN THE PRIMARY SURELY WILL READ LOWER BUT POWER CONSUMPTION REMAINS THE SAME. 3. IT ALSO DEPENDS ON THE RATING OF THE MOTOR LOAD AND THE TYPE OF STARTING METHOD USED THAT YOU CAN MEASURE STARTING CURRENT.

How many amp does a 3 phase 208 voltage motor use?

It depends on how powerful the motor is, and what type of load it is driving.

I have a three phase device on a 415v 50 Hz supply drawing about 100 amps. If I put that device on a 380v 60 Hz supply how will the frequency difference effect the motor?

That is a big motor, 70-80 HP and you should check with an electrician. It depends on what type of motor it is and what type of load it is driving.

What is the difference in wiring a 12 3 phase motor at low voltage between run and start?

You have to wire both the run and start windings. The start windings will automatically be removed from the circuit once the motor is at 75% of normal speed. The start winding gives you more torque to start the motor.
