It would depend on the surgeon and the patient. This would be something that you would probably want to ask the surgeon. I would guess that they would prescribe a muscle relaxer and maybe something like Hydrocodone (generic for Vicodin and/or Lortab). I didn't have a tummy tuck but did have my stomach cut open from my breasts to my belly button and was hospitalized a total of 12 days. Due to my very high tolerance to pain medicines, I was given a much stronger narcotic with a muscle relaxer as well. I would think that this is something that the surgeon would be more likely to answer. I don't believe there is a "standard" type of medicine, as we are all made differently and have very different levels to tolerate pain. Hope this helps!

The immediate medication that you could be given would be some pain pills. Ibuprofen is one of the pain pills. The one I like the best is Aleve, it works really well.
Many women also receive some pain medication--either a short-term medication, such as Nubain or Numorphan, or an epidural anesthesia.
Pain around the tummy button, above the umbilicus.
Before the procedure begins, medication is often given to relax the patient and reduce pain.
Fever and discomfort can be treated with acetaminophen.
If possible, though, administration of pain medication or anesthetics should be delayed until the active phase of labor begins--at which point the medication will not act to slow down or stop the labor.
Close monitoring of the effects of pain medications is required in order to assure that adequate amounts of medication are given to produce the desired pain relief.
