I am very sure there were more Russian IL-2/IL-10s built and flown than any other aircraft in WWII. It was an attack plane and used against German tanks. Unfortunately while it was very good against tanks, it was not too good at defending itself against enemy fighters. It was like the German Ju-87 Stuka dive bomber. Many IL-2/IL-10s were shot down by antiaircraft guns and German fighter planes. The Russians used a lot of IL-2/IL-10s in WW2 and for a few years afterward, in the Korean War for example. There were very few differences between the IL-2 and the improved IL-10.
