Catholics are Christians, in fact Catholics are the first Christians.

The word Catholic translates to: Universal.

Not all Catholics look to the Pope as their spiritual leader.

Answer

Catholics practice the religion of Catholicism, which is Christianity. The pope is the administrative head and spiritual leader of the Catholic faithful and acts as the vicar of Christ in administrative, doctrinal and moral issues concerning the Church. The pope is able to speak inerrantly in God's name when referencing Divine Revelation or when making a rare declaration upon Faith and Morals binding upon the universal Church for all time.
