That depends on how ill the person is. Most severly mentally ill people need first of all a place that will protect them from themselves. Others may just need therapy to learn more about their illness and ways to handle it. Some may need a place that will make sure they are taking their medication. Others may just need a place to pick up the medication, and will take it without problems.
