A mountain is an area of land that is elevated very high, and a valley is an area of land that is very low
The low area between hills or mountain ranges is known as a valley. Often, cities are established in valleys because they are easy to reach, and are afforded the protection of being at the base of a mountain.
An alluvial fan is typically formed at the base of a mountain or hilly area where a river or stream exits a narrow canyon or valley, and the water carrying sediments spreads out onto a flatter, open area. The fan shape is created as the water slows down and deposits the sediment it was carrying.

Valley
A mountain pass would not be the correct term, while a valley can be found between two mountains there is another geological formation that can take place. A saddle is a low point between two peaks in a ridge (a ridge being an area of land with multiple peaks), if the peaks are large enough to be considered mountains then the answer would be a saddle instead of a valley.
