Yes, power steering fluid is very harmful to an automatic transmission. You should not drive it until the fluid is changed.Yes, power steering fluid is very harmful to an automatic transmission. You should not drive it until the fluid is changed.
Into the transmission fluid reservior
Transmission fluid should not be used in place of power steering fluid. Power steering fluid is less compressible so that it can transfer power to different systems. Transmission fluid is meant for lubrication and has higher dimulsibility than power steering fluid.
There is not normally a separate reservoir for the transmission Oil is held in the bottom of the transmission case.
On a 2000 Lincoln LS : The power steering fluid reservoir is between the engine and the DRIVERS side fender ( it takes MERCON automatic transmission fluid ) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- * don't worry , the engine cooling fan fluid reservoir , which is between the engine and the passenger side fender also takes MERCON automatic transmission fluid
either standard power steering fluid or dexron transmission fluid.
The power steering fluid for it is actually the transmission fluid. It should be Mercron. Is this suposed to go in the power steering chamber or the transmission chamber to work. The fluid in my 2006 Ford Escape XLT steering fluid tank is black.
Power steering fluid is basically clear. Some cars use transmission fluid in the power steering which is dark red. You can use power steering fluid in cars that use transmission fluid but not the reverse. The cap of the reservoir should say power steering fluid only.
This small amount will do no harm.
It's a small silver reservoir with black top, sitting near the passanger side end of the engine. It should be filled ONLY with Chrysler approved +4 transmission fluid.
My Ford Explorer takes automatic transmission fluid for the power steering fluid so I guess it would depend on what type of vehicle you have and what type of power steering fluid is supposed to be used
you can try transmission fluid
