Pencilfish come from similar waters to the Discus and so should have similar water conditions. Water that is on the acid side around pH6 and soft, no more than 5dGH. Temperature wise about 80F is fine. They also prefer their water to be tinted by tannins so a bit of Peat Moss in the filter is usefull as is a dark substrate. They are not very active fish, remaining almost stationery in amongst the plant life most of the time.
