During the day one might hear the wind whistling through the sparse plant life, insects, such as the cicada. Nightime would bring out the coyotes which communicate by howling. Of course, the noises you hear would all depend upon what area of the world the desert is located.
You would bugs uder the ground makeing noise and if it is windy the plants will be moving with the wind!

Some noises that you could hear at camp would be first off your campfire, possibly the leaves of the trees that are around the campsite, and any animals that could be within a close proximity of your camp site.
