For example, the polymer of ethene is polyethene. These names are often shortened or abbreviated in everyday usage. Poly-vinylchloride is known as PVC, for example. Because of their structure however, plastics do not burn cleanly in air. They create lots of poisonous and toxic fumes that are detrimental to the environment.
