Morse code
he invented morse code and the telegraph
Morse's original code was developed in the US and was later renamed American Morse Code.European Morse code was developed in Germany about a decade later.International Morse code was derived from European Morse code with a few modifications by international agreement in the 1860s. It quickly replaced the European Morse code throughout Europe for all purposes and the American Morse code for International Shipping but not on land or on coastal ships. International Morse code did not completely replace American Morse code until the early 20th century.
Nothing would happen. Today Morse Code has been replaced.

The modern International Morse Code, introduced in the 1860s is global. However its actual use is declining. Morse's original code, introduced in the 1830s was mostly limited to the US. The European Morse Code, first introduced in Germany in the 1840s was mostly limited to Europe. The International Morse Code was derived mostly from the European Morse Code and is much simpler and easier to use than Morse's original code.

The telegraph and Morse code made communication faster and easier to do. It also contributed to helping union troops in the civil war.
The US Navy still uses morse code via signal lamps during periods of radio silence. It is all but impossible for an enemy to intercept it.
Morse Code provides a letter-based method of communication by means of any type of signal that can be switched on and off ... light, sound, etc. As such, it can accomodate messages in any language that uses the familiar Roman (English) alphabet.
